Overview This position provides engineering technical support for all aspects of protection system design, settings development, event review, maintenance records, and upgrade recommendation activities related to transmission systems. Responsibilities Develop relay settings for transmission protection in new installations and upgrade projects. Diagnose malfunctions/failures and direct preventive/corrective maintenance on protection system equipment. Lead investigations of transmission operations and outages. Ensure the coordination of relay settings with adjacent systems. Provides dedicated engineering and analytical technical support to address Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and other compliance requirements unique to the company’s transmission protection and substations organization. Project management support for all aspects of substation protection and controls in new installations and upgrades, including specifications, bids, contract awards, implementation, and commissioning. Oversee work of contractors. Maintain and update substation protection drawings. Economic and cost analysis studies related to transmission system equipment and systems. Gather, correlate, and analyze transmission system design and operational data, as well as system/equipment performance. Assist with technical support for all aspects of transmission protection systems, including relay testing and system settings. Interface with others both within and outside the company regarding transmission service and connection issues. Perform a variety of routine tasks that will improve the individual’s familiarization with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company’s transmission planning & substations organization. Other job duties as assigned Qualifications EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE ABET Accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective. Three to ten years transmission substation protection and/or relay settings experience preferred. Educational background and coursework in power systems preferred. WORK CONDITIONS Primarily in an office environment. Infrequent field work may be required. The field work requires frequent walking and climbing. PHYSICAL EFFORTS Primarily desk work with some standing and walking. #LG&EKU #INDLGE
