Overview The Engineer I -Development is responsible for assisting in the preparation of utility scale PV solar bid estimates through development and optimization of preliminary project layouts and material takeoffs, including review and consideration of existing project development and client specifications. Will work with the Estimating team to ensure that all design related requirements are fulfilled for each bid proposal. Duties include document review, document management, schedule management, layout development, deliverable submittals, material takeoffs, and proposal development support. Location & Travel Details: This is an Office position, headquartered at our office in Indianapolis, IN. Responsibilities Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures Support the implementation of lessons learned and industry best practices with a mindset of continuous improvement Use effective verbal and written communication skills Use strong technical writing skills for technical narratives Create and optimize preliminary Solar PV Project layouts Execute projects utilizing CAD software or similar development tools creating 3D models and assemblies and drafts of parts components and assemblies Create and review engineering project deliverables Complete design takeoffs from Engineering documents and prepare bills of material Coordinate with the estimating and pre-construction teams during the pre-construction phase to that the contact is consistent with our preliminary design assumptions Employ problem solving skills to resolve issues encountered in project development Assist with review of design documents to ensure that they meet our contractual requirements and reflect our standard installation methods and procedures Coordinate with engineering consultants and project stakeholders regarding the implementation of value engineering and alternate designs Travel to project sites as required to foster relationships with project teams, help solve engineering related issues, and pick up/implement lessons learned Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent work experience 1-3 years of related work experience preferred Experience in renewable energy, power generation, and/or medium/high voltage systems preferred Experience with estimating takeoffs in Autocad Experience with PVSyst, PVCase, PlantPredict, and/or other PV Design Softwares preferred Computer proficiency with; AutoCAD, Procore, InEight, Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred AutoCAD drafting experience with construction drawings /plan sets and solar/PV layouts preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward MasTec's Zero Injury principles Read, analyze and interpret drawings, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel as well as manufacturing partners Must be open minded, creative, and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find creative solutions within the confines of the code Must be confident; must possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically prove design concepts The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects is a must Solid written and oral communication skills are a must Ability to effectively communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, project engineers, code officials and third-party consultants What's in it for you: Financial Wellbeing Compensation $65K to $80K/year, commensurate with experience 401(k) with company match & Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) Flexible spending account (Healthcare & Dependent care) Health & Wellness Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance (plan choice) - coverage for spouse, domestic partner, and children Diabetes Management, Telehealth Coverage, Prescription Drug Plan, Pet Insurance Family & Lifestyle Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, Bereavement Leave Military Leave, including Differential Pay and Benefits Continuation Employee Assistance Program Planning for the Unexpected Short and long-term disability, life insurance, and accidental death & dismemberment Voluntary life insurance, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity coverage Emergency Travel Assistance Program Group legal plan Position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing.
