Job Summary
Dominion Energy's Electric Transmission System Operations Center (ET SOC) is seeking candidates to provide engineering support for the System Operations Backup and Education Center’s (SOBEC) Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS). Candidates must possess the knowledge and technical skills to complete varied assignments requiring diverse knowledge of engineering and operations principles and practices. Responsibilities include performing engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Specific responsibilities will involve programming/maintaining the DTS by designing specific power flow solutions to create scenarios for training events. You would assist with training operators on engineered scenarios. Under the direction of a supervisor or work leader, you will engage in routine assignments designed to develop and enhance ET SOC’s education curriculum. You will gain familiarity with techniques, approaches, practices, and the nature of engineering systems and equipment. The goal is to develop the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out DTS base case development, work related to DTS system upgrades, and design of tools utilized by system operators and staff. You must use judgment in prioritizing tasks and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications.
Preferred: Ideal candidate will be proficient with coding languages such as C++, Java, Python, or similar languages as tasks will involve writing scripts/lines of code to complete engineering tasks with data on the DTS/EMS. Experience with database management systems is a plus, as a successful candidate will be interacting with large amounts of information working behind the scenes of the DTS/EMS.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceEngineer I:
0-2+ years of relevant engineering experience Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory; Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); Effective decision-making skills; Computer skills and application of software programs, including Microsoft Office Suites, especially Word and Excel; Analytical and abstract thinking skills; Problem solving skills; Ability to learn and apply AutoCAD Civil 3D skills; Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems; Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices; Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills; Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks; Ability to work within a team environment.

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer license.
