Definition
The Division of Sewers and Drains, City of Columbus, is accepting applications for a vacant Engineer I position. To qualify you must have a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer and a valid motor vehicle operator's license. This position will be responsible for managing Capital Improvement Projects for sanitary and storm improvements within the Sewer System Engineering Section. The department is interested in applicants with experience in engineering related to stormwater and wastewater collection systems.

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing entry-level professional engineering work; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Acts as engineer-in-charge of small construction and/or maintenance projects;
Assigns and evaluates work of professional and technical staff;
Checks work accomplished by subordinates for quality and quantity by using pre-established standards and policies;
Prepares preliminary and final plans and specifications for minor projects; reviews and performs studies or additional research to evaluate engineering solutions;
Reviews and investigates requests and complaints received from the public; recommends corrective measures;
Inspects engineering projects for conformance to plans and specifications;
Serves as liaison to and communicates information with affected groups such as City departments, inspectors, contractors, developers, design consultants, utility companies, or other participants pertaining to specific engineering projects;
Assists in the planning and preparation of proposals and specifications for major engineering projects;
Stays abreast of current engineering principles;
Operates a computer and mapping software to draw and review maps and plans;
May do on-site investigations prior to a project;
May represent the division at meetings with local, state, and federal agencies, regional planning and technical committees, commissioners, citizen groups, engineering groups, and other City departments;
May direct or personally engage in field surveys; makes plan-in-hand inspections of ongoing projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a valid State of Ohio certificate as a registered Professional Engineer.
Specialization in the discipline for which appointment is being made may be required for some positions and will be incorporated in the job postings, as appropriate.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
