Engineer II-Design & Analysis

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provides technical assistance to external customers, sales, manufacturing and quality, visiting customer sites when required, to ensure that the design needs of internal and external customers are met on a timely and effective basis.
• Generates, leads, and approves design proposals via Global Incremental Process and communicates alignments and/or misalignments with customer requirements based on our internal capabilities.
• Instructs, directs, and checks the work of less experienced engineers or technicians. Actively supports mentoring and conducts training activities.
• Recommends material based on application criteria in line with existing functional guidelines and reviews material specifications to determine alignment between GT and customer requirements.
• Identifies & proposes development or continuous improvement opportunities for GT to apply technology or product by extension of technology or capabilities.
• Supports disposition of material batches that may be flagged for review through our internal quality system using their baseline understanding of material data such as Tg, density, modulus.
• Ensures model accuracy, design documentation, drafting standards alignment, and/or testing requirements are met when generating or approving drawings for production.
• Conducts complex design analysis of components and/or assemblies that may extend current product/material/manufacturing capabilities and completes these work assignments utilizing engineering principles & functional protocols to generate the necessary documentation.
• Assures product quality by defining testing/qualification/validation methods aligned with application requirements; Clearly understands and communicates testing methods for finished- product and system capabilities to Central Engineering; Produces, oversees, and approves external facing technical reports as needed.
• Leads technical or business projects in support of strategic goals, leverages cross functional network to drive execution from other business functions' and other engineering personnel.
• Generates, leads, and approves Product Performance analysis reports/documentation of returned GT products in order to determine modes of failure and areas of improvement to be made, and to advise team members or customers on design changes and other product improvements that could be made.
• Dispositions finished product submitted to the Material Review Board using and develops tools as need for product or process improvement based on their observations.
• Proposes and Generates Work Instructions related to functionality of their department in alignment with industry standards and external customer requirements.
• Attend and participate in technical meetings and on committees, as requested, and where appropriate. Represent GT in order to apply suitable input and controls on materials and parts specifications to ensure GT’s best interests are maintained.

• Organize and deliver technical presentations in support of the business goals to broad audience sets such as customer meetings, industry forums, and technical societies.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certifications: B.S. in Engineering Discipline required


Skills and Experience:
• 6-10 Years in Engineering or Design Environment
• Experience using 3D CAD software; knowledge of FEA systems Preferred
• Strong computer literacy, especially in MS Office
• Ability to work in cross-functional team environment
• Effective communication skills with internal and external customers
• Experience in Polymer, Plastics, Elastomer design/manufacturing preferred
• Working knowledge of Lean 6 Sigma Principles , Yellow Belt preferred
• Experience with material testing and material data analysis preferred
• Previous customer-facing experience desired
• Ability to travel 10-20% for customer or industry meetings
