We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

There is one position available within Power Generation Regulatory Compliance team which will be filled at the level commensurate with the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. 

 

Power Generation Regulatory Compliance is seeking a qualified engineer with electrical experience, preferably with power plant and/or renewable energy generation experience, to be responsible for ensuring Power Generation’s compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and regional reliability organization regulations and policies. This position will be responsible for highly technical compliance requirements, to include the coordination and review of dynamic model verifications for generation excitation control systems or plant volt/var control functions and for turbine/governor and load control or active power/frequency control functions, the tracking and management of Protection System and Sudden Pressure Relaying maintenance, the technical and compliance reviews of internal and external engineering evaluations of protective relay settings, and the compliance review of voltage and reactive power operational data. This position will also require working and collaborating with other departments, business units, and external organizations.

 

As a Regulatory Compliance engineer, your duties include but are not limited to:

 

Ensuring facility dynamic model verifications are performed and submitted to regional reliability organizations in accordance with compliance requirements and periodicities. As part of a project team with Electric Transmission’s System Protection group, creating and maintaining SAP protective relay and sensing device maintenance plans and documentation. Maintaining compliance tracking tool spreadsheets for Protection System and Sudden Pressure Relaying maintenance, facility model verifications, and engineering compliance evaluations of protective relay settings. Identifying Protection Systems and Sudden Pressure Relaying applicable to NERC Reliability Standard PRC-005 through the review of electrical one line and elementary diagrams. Reviewing quarterly voltage and reactive power operational data of generating facilities to ensure compliance with prescribed voltage and reactive power schedules. Participating in diligence meetings led by Business Development to review proposed generating projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage, performing compliance assessments of proposed projects to determine BES applicability, and providing compliance cost estimates. Representing Power Generation Regulatory Compliance in bi-monthly meetings between Power Generation and Electric Transmission to collaboratively meet multi-organizational objectives. Reviewing documentation during project construction phases to ensure satisfactory compliance evidence has been received. Evaluating internal and external engineering reports for technical accuracy and adherence to compliance requirements, including verifying calculations, engineering methods, and compliance approaches. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

 

Engineer II: Minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience and a B.S in Engineering required.

Engineer III: Minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience and a B.S in Engineering required.

 

Demonstrated experience of applying electrical engineering theories and principles. Working knowledge of NERC compliance requirements. In-depth knowledge of various computer applications, e.g., Matlab, Excel, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations. Ability to develop and deliver training on NERC Reliability Standards and Power Generation’s internal compliance programs. Ability to read and comprehend electrical one-line, three-line, elementary, and logic diagrams. Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as a team project lead. Strong oral and written communication skills (including technical writing). Proven decision-making skills. Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to work effectively both individually as well as part of a team. Previous work experience in a power station or renewable energy generating facility environment preferred. Previous experience in the development of protective relay settings and/or protective relay testing preferred. Previous experience with control systems, e.g., excitation, turbine/governor, Power Plant Controller (PPC), preferred.

 

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
 

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or  Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or  Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license Education Requirements

Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor

Preferred discipline(s): Electrical Engineering

Acceptable disciplines: Mechanical Engineering
