Overview This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, challenging engineering work but with limited direct responsibility. Specific job positions may include planning, designing, and/or overseeing construction, installation, operation and maintenance of components, systems and facilities used in the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy. #INDPPL Responsibilities Performs engineering work on PPL’s distribution lines. Assists in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects. Uses procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs and recommendations that solve ongoing problems. Develops technical expertise on the design of Overhead and Underground distribution lines including expertise in associated equipment such as transformers, protection devices, disconnect switches, underground secondary networks, vaults and manholes, and power line structural components (poles, guying, crossarms, mounting hardware, etc..) Provides engineering expertise and technical support during the planning and construction phases of large, complex overhead and underground distribution line design projects. Oversees contract engineers and coordinates engineering activities across multiple engineering disciplines, work groups, and external stakeholders; including but not limited to: Project Management, Standards, Substations, Protection, Surveying and Right-of-Way, Foreign Utilities, and PennDOT. Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies. Takes initiative to continually expand and improve technical and business skills. Works under supervision in the field and/or home office in a variety of functions and challenging but structured work that develops competencies in the function/discipline. Assists in a variety of topics which include developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations and new or better equipment purchase recommendations. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours and/or weekends, outside of your normal schedule. Lead and support assigned projects for Rhode Island Electric (RIE) and PPL Electric Utilities (PPL EU) Support enterprise-wide (PA/RI/KY) tasks, and initiatives as needed. Periodic travel within PA and occasional travel to RI/KY to support projects. Travel will also entail attending conferences and conducting benchmarking. All other duties and projects, as assigned. Qualifications Engineer II: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil / Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university. Minimum of two years related experience. Engineer III: All Engineer I and Engineer II requirements, with a minimum of five years related experience and working knowledge of utility industry and regulations. Principal Engineer: All Engineer I, Engineer II, and Engineer III requirements, with a minimum of ten years related experience and working knowledge of utility industry and regulations. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer License or Engineer in Training Certificate. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and engineering analysis tools. At least one year experience in distribution/transmission line design. Remote Work The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
