EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for Engineer III - Systems in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position is located at our Gaithersburg, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer III - Systems in our Hughes Network Systems division.Perform a lead role in the planning and execution of the installation, administration, monitoring and maintenance of IT systems and infrastructure comprising the HughesNet networks, external networks, and assigned Network Operation Centers (NOCs) by employing expertise with servers, security hardware, virtualization tools operating on the Windows and Linux operating systems.Develop overall plans and implement system solutions to optimize the performance and reliability of the networking and security infrastructure, applying knowledge of network firewalls (Fortinet) and related security tools.Evaluate opportunities for network optimization through the use of virtualization platforms, create and implement plans to meet expected end-user growth employing virtualization tools such as VMWare, vCenter and Virtual Machines; develop and implement plans for administering and managing existing ESXi systems and operating systems for single virtual machinesPlan and coordinate the introduction of additional network hardware and software into the production environment, to include planning the pre-deployment verification, and establishing configuration settings with existing hardware and network applications.Continuously identify points of failure within production networks, identify and isolate  the components at fault, conduct root cause analysis and provide reports and change requests to the internal engineering team, or to the responsible external vendor, to resolve faults during manufacture.Plan and implement network automation solutions, employing Python and Bash Shell Scripting to address repetitive network management tasks.Coordinate the operations of 24/7 On-Call rotation support to network customers to include conducting a preliminary assessment of the type and severity of the issue, establishing which team (internal engineering or external customer support staff) is best equipped to resolve the issue, and providing external technical support staff specific guidance or tools necessary for the resolution.Be responsible for maintaining network equipment inventory and configuration records, including software version tracking, and ensure compliance with all software licensing requirements.Execute high level planning and prepare recommendations to commercial network clients regarding optimal network configurations to meet their capacity requirements, and to identify products that best meet their customers’ demands for added services, such as mobile networking.                      Perform a direct technical liaison role to the business users of the network, interact directly with end-users to establish network requirements and feature sets; plan network capacity and configurations to meet business user needs; and be responsible for scheduling the necessary actions to ensure continuous network maintenance.Provide network management analysis and guidance to resolve process and product problems that may impact overall network operations; recommend new concepts and approaches to management to improve the quality of networks and services.

Basic Requirements:

Master’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Telecommunications and qualifying experience in the position, or in a related Network and Computer Systems Administration, or Network Engineering occupation. As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Telecommunications and five years of experience in the position, or in a related Network and Computer Systems Administration, or Network Engineering occupation will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

Six months experience gained with executing the configuration of switches and routers within a satellite based broadband data network.Six months experience employing scripting to execute network automation, server & database maintenance, backups, and network monitoring.Six months experience gained with VMWare network virtualization tools.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
