POSITION SUMMARY
The Automation Engineer IV is responsible for designing, sourcing, building and testing automated assembly equipment used in the biodefense, clinical and life-science markets. This position will conduct the planning, scheduling and control of Automation projects to support new product development through the transition from prototypes into manufacturing. This position will manage and direct the work of others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Design, develop and test automation equipment Lead designer of complex projects involving Robotics, controls, fluid handling equipment, machine vision, pick-and-place, part handling, sorting and conveying, and packaging Software programming for control of automation equipment Design of Human Machine Interfaces Presentation of and participation in peer reviews of Automation design Extension of existing systems for new production capabilities Plan, schedule, and control automation projects Mentor and supervise Mentor and supervise Automation Engineers and Technicians Accountable for the work of others under their supervision where applicable. May be responsible for training and development of Automation personnel. Conduct performance reviews and document performance evaluation Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirementsEXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering is required 15 years of experience in automation equipment design, design for manufacturing and assembly Prior experience in specifying, selecting and integrating assembly, process control and inspection instrumentation such as industrial robots, PLCs, machine vision and image processing, and digital and analog sensors is required 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) modeling experience is required Supervisory experience highly preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience developing, integrating and validating systems, in a cGMP, ISO or other regulated production environment for pharmaceuticals, biotech or medical devices manufacturing is a plus Experience in full life-cycle software development for automation systems using software languages such as C, C++, C#, JAVA or Visual Basic is a plus Ability to program PLC’s is required Experience with design for manufacturing, assembly and automation Experience in the manufacture of FDA regulated devices and experience in the health care field is a plus Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion Strong knowledge of robotics and electromechanical systems and analytical background Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of data Proficient in MS Office Suite Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding production environment with changing prioritiesPHYSICAL DEMANDS
