Engineer Rotational Development Program - Aspire

An entry level engineering position for newly graduated engineers. Rotating through each of the core business sectors of ABS, the rotational engineer will spend up to four months each working in engineering, survey and technology. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, incumbent will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures. Following the completion of each rotation, the engineer will be placed in a permanent role as either an Engineer I or Surveyor I. 

What You Will Do: 

Performs detailed engineering review of plans as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations and contract commitments. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices but may include moderately complex problems such as the resolution of conflicting design requirements, material standards or coordination of activities among other disciplines.
With the assistance and guidance of an experienced Surveyor during the survey rotation: Visits vessels, marine structures, and manufacturers for routine survey activities. Performs work that involves conventional surveying practices, but may include moderately complex problem resolution and coordination of activities among other disciplines. Under the supervision of an experienced Engineer during the technology rotation: Conduct research in support of ship and offshore related classification and rule development.

What You Will Need:

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

BS degree in related engineering field including civil, structural, ocean, marine, mechanical, electrical or naval architecture. Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.  The ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems. Good command of the English language. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to work well with others. Needs to be familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System.

Reporting Relationships:

The incumbent (Aspire) will report to a senior-level engineer or technical manager. This position has no direct reports.

Working Conditions

Work will normally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment. During survey rotation, will be required to go aboard marine vessels or structures and visit manufacturing plants or remote field sites. Wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with UWZ− 030‒99-P07, is required in such occasions. If the work will be performed in confined spaces, the relevant requirements of the confined space entry in ABS Safety Manual shall be complied with. Work will be of a non-manual nature, but the incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment and structures.
