ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COMPLIANCE ASSURANCE ENGINEER/SPECIALIST

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Environmental Compliance Assurance Manager, this position is an opportunity to lead and contribute to a world class compliance program by building on Georgia Power’s existing Environmental Management System. Georgia Power Environmental Affairs is a corporate department of environmental subject matter experts who work with Georgia Power’s operations to support environmental compliance. The Compliance Assurance team is part of Environmental Affairs and is responsible for developing and implementing compliance programs and tools for Environmental Affairs, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, and Corporate Service organizations.
This position may be filled as an analyst, specialist, or engineer depending on educational background, experience, and qualifications.
** The successful candidate will be based at Georgia Power’s Environmental Lab at least three days a week.
Although this position is not a field job, the successful candidate will also visit facilities throughout Georgia on an as needed basis.
As part of the Compliance Assurance team, the successful candidate will work with all facets of the Environmental Management System (EMS) which include: EMS Information System (Enablon) support, training program administration, and records management administration. Although not considered an Information Technology role, the successful candidate will need to have a strong aptitude for working with data and data reporting platforms such as Enablon and Power BI.
The successful candidate will also need a basic functional understanding of environmental regulations affecting air, water, and waste, as well as a drive to develop deeper expertise on the regulations affecting environmental programs. The successful candidate also must have the ability to develop a strong understanding of Georgia Power’s business and operations as well as the ability to establish relationships to build an internal network of support.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Georgia Power’s Environmental Compliance Assurance Program
Develop an understanding of operations and activities and how they relate to environmental compliance Build relationships with Environmental Affairs subject matter experts and facility personal to provide trusted support Advocate for the implementation of the EMS program in a consistent way across all facilities Support the compliance assurance field team as needed to meet these responsibilitiesSupport and Drive Adoption of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management Information System (Enablon)
Champion the adoption of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management Information System (Enablon) by providing first tier support of users as needed Coordinate second tier support with software vendors, consultants, and internal IT department as needed Maintain the quality and relevance of content, such as tasks, inspections, checklist, agency interaction data, etc. by working closely with subject matter experts Support the implementation of software enhancements and new applications/modules, including development of training materials, job aids, and live user trainingAdminister the Environmental Affairs Training Program
Manage and enhance a training program to ensure Georgia Power people are knowledgeable about environmental compliance obligations and procedures and to minimize the impact of people changing roles on the overall compliance program Maintain and continually improve training policies and programs, and work with subject matter experts to provide high quality training content Schedule and track training completion, including data-driven training performance management Support the incorporation of environmental training into Southern Company’s Learning Source system and other “ONE TEAM” initiativesAdminister the Environmental Recordkeeping Program
Administer the Environmental Affairs Environmental Record Structure, including making changes to support future business needs and efficiencies Champion the use of the record structure by Environmental Affairs and operations Ensure Environmental Affairs aligns with Southern Company’s Record Information Management program and represent Environmental Affairs as our “RIM Champion”Environmental Management System Documentation
Support Continuous Improvement of the Environmental Management System documentation Support monthly EMS Performance reporting to Environmental Affairs leadership Ensure obligations established in the EMS Document are met on a timely basisOther Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Company’s storm restoration and emergency response efforts as appropriate Up to 25% travel throughout the state of Georgia; occasional travel to Alabama will also be required These duties are the primary focus of the role and other duties could be assigned as neededJOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Education & Job Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or information technology related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Management Information Systems/Data Science, etc.) or equivalent work experience. 7+ years of experience as follows: Experience implementing and/or supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) or Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Information Systems is highly desirable, with Enablon experience strongly preferred Experience supporting environmental compliance programs for one or more environmental media, such as air, water, or waste Experience in an industrial setting, especially an electric utility Experience developing functional reports using Power BI or similar technologies is a plus Experience in a consulting or other client supporting role is a plus Experience with project manager is a plusLeadership Experience Requirements:
