One (1) year of experience in laboratory analysis, or knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act preferred. Must have the ability to work independently as well as under direct supervision. Position Information Class Code: B090C Grade: GS05 FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $32,405.00 - $51,686.00 Summary The Engineer Technician is responsible for gathering engineering data or environmental samples, assisting staff in the field, and documenting engineering studies or reports. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Functions Assists staff engineers, architects, surveyors, and inspectors in the field as required by agency. Operates computer-remote terminal or personal computer and various computer programs to enter a variety of engineering data into established database and may manipulate data to produce drawings, plans, and/or reports. Reviews, logs, and tracks projects. Routes logs and documents as agency requires. May collect various types of environmental samples for analysis and may analyze sample to determine presence/absence of specific substances. May prepare a variety of maps, charts, or illustrations to document findings or to illustrate reports or may enter geographic data into system software to produce digitized geographic data and/or maps. Performs other duties as assigned. Dimensions May be exposed to hazards in the field or the laboratory. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of basic engineering principles relating to the work performed. Knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques. Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of engineering computer software. Ability to collect and analyze engineering data. Ability to prepare and present oral and written technical information and reports. Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of vocational or college training in pre-engineering, drafting, or related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
