Position Objective:
This position will assist the Sr. Engineer - Track in the design and evaluation of track projects including switch and interlocking systems and creating plans for track maintenance and construction. Assist in the analysis of data to prioritize maintenance and Capital work. The programs shall maintain the track infrastructure in a state of good repair throughout Metro-North Railroad (MNR) territory.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist in the Design of Track-related systems such as switch replacements, track alignment and profile, new interlockings , and platform gaps/steps evaluation.
+ Assist in the Development of Standard Drawings and Specifications of Track Components and Assemblies. Develop scope of work for Contract Inspection/Maintenance Services.
+ Assist in the Analysis of track data and assist the maintenance forces to locate the defects and track the repair of defects.
+ Organize and maintain data to identify trends for forecasting future needs.
+ Coordinate projects with department managers to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
+ Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering geometry, and site design and layout, including survey plans.
+ Strong oral presentation and written communication skills.
+ Strong decision-making skills.
+ Strong project management and coordination skills which include quality control and quality assurance measures.
+ Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and Civil Software Design and analysis packages.
+ Knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable PC applications.
+ Available and on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as required.
+ Valid Driver’s license.
The following is/are preferred:
+ NYS and CT Professional Engineering License or ability to gain reciprocity.
Required Education and Experience:
+ BS or BE in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited school.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil engineering design and site layout.
+ Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate (FE/EIT).
The following is/are preferred, but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:
+ Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and American Railroad Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) standards.
+ Knowledge of railroad operations.
+ Construction management experience.
Other Information
This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.
According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
