LCRA is looking for a Systems Protection Engineer to join our team. As part of LCRA's Transmission Protection team, your primary task will be to develop protective relay settings, perform system coordination studies and to develop scope for capital improvement projects.
You will be trusted to:
Perform the following engineering assignments with supervision from a licensed Professional Engineer:
- Develop transmission and distribution system protective relay settings
- Perform protective relay coordination studies
- Conduct disturbance analysis of electric system fault events
- Relay misoperation analysis, reporting, and corrective action plans
- Assist with NERC compliance on PRC standards
- Work on capital project development as part of the LCRA TSC capital planning process
- Conduct generator interconnection studies
- Perform circuit breaker or circuit switcher rating studies
You qualify with:
- Bachelors degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics, biosystems engineering, mathematical science, physical science or related science.
- Driver's license
You are a great fit with:
A familiarity with the following tools and topics:
- Protective relay settings software
- Relay coordination software (e.g. ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, etc)
- Event analysis software
- Transmission line impedance calculations
- Symmetrical components
- Electrical print reading (e.g. relay one-line diagrams, DC schematics, etc)
- Power system apparatus (e.g. circuit breakers, circuit switchers, fuses, transformers, etc)
- Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, etc)
- Software programming (e.g. Python, VBA, LiveCode, etc)
- NERC reliability standards
- ERCOT market rules
