Overview Employee will perform a variety of complex and technical office and field duties related to design of overhead and underground electric and gas facilities necessary to supply or maintain required supply of energy service within our distribution area. Responsibilities **GENERAL DUTIES** The normal duties may include but are not limited to: 1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. 1. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations during emergencies and for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in training activities. 1. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. The employee will demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by the Company to assure correct classification of employees. 1. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury. 1. Employee will perform such other duties that are within his/her capabilities as directed by supervision that are necessary to Company operation or are needed for training for higher classifications. 1. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 1. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 1. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment within and outside the Company. 1. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required. 1. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. **SPECIFIC DUTIES** Duties, which may include, but are not limited to: 1. Employee will assist with work assignments with other departments of the Company and with outside agencies, utilities and contractors. Work will include (but not limited to) interpreting the engineering drawings from outside agencies and utilities for conflicts with existing and proposed gas & electric facilities. Work will also include (but not limited to): the coordination of design of new company facilities in concert with outside agencies, utilities and contractors. 1. Employee will assist with layout and design detailed engineering work necessary to provide construction personnel with all necessary information to install, modify and/or maintain gas and electric facilities within or being added to the Company's distribution systems. Engineering work includes calculation of proper pipe/cable size, pressures, voltages, etc. Additional responsibility will include making sure easements and permits are secured. 1. Employee will become familiar with and acquire a working knowledge of the maps and records of the gas and electric systems including gas storage, gas and electric distribution and transmission systems, and taxing districts. 1. Employee will become familiar with and acquire a working knowledge of gas and electric facility records pertaining to gas and electric services, distribution and transmission facilities and gas storage fields. 1. Employee will learn to take measurements, make simple calculations and draft sketches and right-of –way surveys in the field for the purpose of making estimates and detailed drawings for prints to be used for gas and electric line construction. 2. Employee will perform fieldwork such as, but not limited to measuring accurately with tape or wheel, taking basic field notes, driving locating stakes, minor right-of-way clearing and other similar tasks. 1. Employee will prepare cost estimates and will assist in making field inventory for the purpose of preparing cost estimates, preparing maps and diagrams for gas and electric facilities. 1. Employee will perform basic drafting and work with Computer Aided Drafting software and tools to develop proficiency with CAD to advance to next level. Qualifications **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO:** **GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS** 1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment. 1. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 1. Employee must have a two-year degree in drafting or equivalent degree. 1. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work. 1. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced. 1. Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions. 2. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. 1. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed. 1. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job. 1. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher qualifications 1. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports. 1. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches. 1. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her. 1. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression. 1. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results. 2. Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs. 1. Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs as are promulgated by the Louisville Gas and Electric Company to measure job responsiveness aptitude, ability to retain knowledge and problem and problem solving skills. 1. Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal, State and Municipal regulations as it applies to this position. **SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS** 1. Employee must have proficient technical knowledge of gas and electric symbols/terms, distribution systems, materials, construction procedures and related skills such as mathematics to be able to handle difficult design assignments 2. Employee must have proficient knowledge of the gas and electric system in general, the streets, roads, highways, general area served and the Company’s extension and service policies. 3. Employee must be competent in computer applications and possess a two-year degree in drafting or degree equivalent. 1. Employee must have a working knowledge of the construction and maintenance of gas and electric distribution, transmission lines, mains and services, including the ability to identify facilities in the field. 2. Employee must have demonstrated the ability to meet the public in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner and must possess the ability to work cooperatively with other departments, utilities and contractors with which his/her work must be coordinated. 3. Remote Work The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
