Job Description

We are currently seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Design Engineering team in the Toys product category. A deep understanding of design engineering is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels. In this role, you will ensure best practices and coach your team to deliver production-ready designs that meet customer expectations. The position also requires expertise in the principles of plastic part design, complex part assembly and GD&T. Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of design engineering experience with an emphasis on toys or children’s products and plastics. The ideal candidate is a culture builder who cares for the team, leads with optimism and demonstrates resilience. The position is on-site at our Carson, CA, headquarters. 

A day on the job looks like this: 

Leading the design engineering team through hands-on coaching and critique Ensuring engineering work is high quality, cost effective and on time, and meets customer needs  Developing the engineering team with an emphasis on technical and leadership skills Building strong relationships with internal and external partners to ensure all goals are met Identifying process opportunities to continuously improve how engineering work is completed

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering 10+ years of design engineering experience with an emphasis on toys or children’s products and plastics 5+ years of experience leading people and teams with a successful track record of guiding them to deliver their best work Expertise in: Principles of plastic part design, complex part assembly, GD&T and material selection Plastic part manufacturing (injection and blow molding), decoration and secondary operations (sonic welding, assembly, etc.) CAD (SolidWorks), PDM, PLM, FEA Soft goods, metal and wood product experience a plus Ability to push beyond industry standards and lead your team in the pursuit of “near perfection” Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to simplify technical information to drive decision-making Good understanding of quality process and testing in design engineering work Experience applying voice of the customer and end use in design engineering work Ability to build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional partners to achieve the collective mission Active involvement in the Engineering team’s work at a detailed level, helping the team and partners when needed Ability to drive engineering processes and influence overall product development processes English speaking required
