The Military Division (Massachusetts National Guard) is seeking a professional for the role of Engineering Draftsman at Otis Air National Guard Base. The selected candidate for this role will serve as the senior engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation. The Engineering Draftsman will monitor construction site activities, inspect sites for conformance to plans and specifications, and communicate with contractors.
The ideal candidate will be able to independently plan the methods to portray and prepare engineering drawings involving original and complex designs, prepare drawings for major contractual projects utilizing computer design software. They will also have a solid knowledge of construction standards and practices and perform work within a defines framework of procedures and standards.
Essential Job Duties(these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)
Prepares project documents including drawing scopes, performance work statements, estimates, request for proposal (RFP), request for information (RFI), and notice to proceed (NTP) documents.Translates ideas, rough sketches, specifications, and calculations of engineers, architects, and designers into complete and accurate working drawings for use in structure and system maintenance, repairs, or new construction.Develops project overview narratives, construction and materials cost estimates, and schedules/timelines.Review and gain an understanding of all project documents including plans, specifications, and submittals to be familiar with all aspects of assigned projects.Performs material estimates/takeoffs from construction drawings.Prepares notes on drawings using standard abbreviations and engineering terms.Maintains copies of all as-builts and new designs on computer storage media. Keeps a current index and cross-reference of files/drawings.Responsible for obtaining reproduction of prints by contract services as well as providing required prints to contracting personnel.Inspects the work of contractors and their subcontractors to ensure conformance to the contract documents. Conducts periodic site inspections to ensure project delivery in accordance with project documents.Applies working knowledge of accounting principles and payment tracking for invoices and applications for payment.Develops and uses databases, spreadsheets, and word processing equipment to provide necessary information to contractors, vendors, and military personnel.Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.Emergency overtime may be required.May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.Must perform additional duties as assigned.ABOUT OUR AGENCY
