Summary You will serve as a ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, INTERGRATED SOLID WASTE DIVISION of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. Responsibilities You will operate one or more types of vehicles to transport a wide variety of types, sizes, weights, and variations of refuse or recycled materials You will operate one or more types of solid waste collection vehicles such as front loader packers and roll off trucks to collect various types of materials. You will check materials transported in containers ensuring no contamination, verify status of cargo, and obtains signature of receiving personnel if required. You will maneuver trucks over rough terrain, over improved or unimproved roads, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic on both long and short hauls. You will complete the appropriate vehicle check lists noting the required preventive maintenance and deficiencies for the various vehicles and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Must possess a valid Washington State Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL). An out of state Class "A" CDL license is acceptable, however, you must have it transferred to a Washington State License within 30 days of hire. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Drivers operate a two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher or supervisor on assignments and locations. The incumbent may be required to work overtime; call back and unscheduled work are regular requirements of this position. Such emergencies may include recovery from natural or man-made disasters. May be assigned to any basic work week or shift hours, including alternating shifts. Work site areas include activities supported by NAVFAC, and other serviced Commands. This position may require regular, frequent travel away from the normal duty station; may be required to provide technical guidance and direction or other types of informal coaching/training to other employees. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
