Summary About the Position: Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Engineering Equipment Unit, Field Maintenance Section, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. Responsibilities Provides technical guidance and field maintenance support to dam structure and its appurtenances, dams, levees, canals, culverts, rivers, roads, recreation areas, and grounds. Plans use of workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a day-to-day, project by project and on a week to week or month to month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by supervisors. Provides operational and environmental input into sections project plans, Project Management Plans, Environmental Impact Statements, and management documents involving the South Florida area of responsibility. Provides for and ensures Project Security, Mobilization and Emergency Management activities are planned for and implemented. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to supervise work leads, train, and license one or more subordinate equipment operators. Must have experience in earth work operations with the following equipment excavators, bulldozers, front end loaders, and off-road trucks, etc. Must demonstrates proper work methods, determine job resources, and evaluates outcome. Must know equipment maintenance and repair. Must be able to demonstrate ability to effectively communication instructions and maintain job safely. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Lead or Supervise Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment Operator Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT Uses heavy physical effort by constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, legs, and body to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces and on inclines. Because of the location of some of the controls, and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Repair work requires incumbent to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and on parts that are in hard-to-reach places. WORKING CONDITIONS Works outside exposed to seasonally hot and cold weather, fatigue from heavy labor, strains, falls, cuts, bruises, abrasions, burns, fumes, dust, insect bites, noise, and usual hazards relative to equipment operating. Operates engineering equipment near or adjacent to buildings, trees, drop-offs, and water control structures on steep or rough terrain over rock, sand, gravel, shell, muck, or fallen trees and heavy vegetation. Works behind coffer dams or other dewatering systems above or below grade. Repair work is performed indoors in drafty, noisy environment. Must stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time, crawl under vehicles and is exposed to grease, dirt, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) 18 Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
