Engineering Intern

Kleen Energy Systems is a state-of-the-art 620 MW combined cycle power facility fueled by natural gas and oil. The facility features two Siemens SGT6-PAC 5000F combustion turbines and a Siemens SST6-PAC 5000 steam turbine, ensuring efficient energy production. Integrated into the ISO New England system, Kleen Energy transmits power through the CL&P 345 KV transmission line, providing reliable and sustainable energy to the region.

Opportunity Summary

The Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience in the utility industry, working closely with experienced engineers on real-world projects and daily operations. This internship provides an opportunity to apply engineering principles in a professional setting while contributing to meaningful projects.

Primary Functions

Assist engineers with assignments and larger projects. Shadow operations to gain exposure to practical engineering applications. Perform routine engineering tasks, including calculations, tests, and analyses. Work under supervision to complete projects with defined objectives and outcomes. Develop familiarity with engineering methods, practices, and programs used at Kleen Energy.

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay will be $20.00 per hour.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work takes place in a power plant environment requiring extended periods of standing, stair and ladder climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Must wear protective equipment for certain tasks (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection).

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening.

There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility. 

Work Schedule

The intern will work 24 hours per week over three days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with some flexibility in scheduling based on business needs and candidate availability.

Education and Experience Required 

We are accepting applications currently enrolled in an undergraduate Electrical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering program.

Sophomores: Must be in their second year of engineering studies. Juniors: Must be on track to graduate with a Bachelor’s or combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree and enter the workforce full-time in 2026. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
