Engineering Intern - Battery Advanced Materials

Role Summary Internship Term: Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027. Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements. Assist cell prototype assembly processes, battery characterization, and data analysis to support Rivian’s advanced materials and future cell technology development. Responsibilities Future cell materials testing and proof-of-concept cell prototyping Assist engineers with analysis tasks, including equipment set-up, electrode preparation, and basic powder characterization. Support Cell Lab Operation by assisting cell assembly, testing and characterization processes Collaborate with engineers to support diagnostics and troubleshooting of testing equipment, reporting issues for further investigation and resolution. Coding, big data analysis, and/or machine learning capabilities to adapt and create digital platform for cell design and cost models Qualifications Must be currently pursuing a PhD degree at an accredited university Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science in the last year before graduation / thesis defense Hands-on experience in slurry mixing and coating processes with a deep technical understanding Knowledge of major methods of battery characterization methods, electrochemical analysis such as CV, EIS, GITT, and/or PITT, and materials characterization such as SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, FTIR, BET, TGA/DSC, and/or ICP Proficiency in developing cell design sheets and bill of materials (BOM) cost model Proficiency in big data processing, coding, and/or machine learning model builds #LI-SA5 Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships: The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
