Daikin Applied is seeking a talented and eager Engineering Intern. This role evaluates, develops and improves manufacturing processes that supports the plant management with production and equipment issues. Daikin Applied Americas, Inc. in Phoenix makes large-scale commercial HVAC solutions, commonly referred to as Modular Central Plants (MCPs) and Package Central Plants (PCPs). Each project is unique and based entirely on the customers’ individual specifications. The plants are designed, sourced, built and tested in Phoenix, Arizona and then shipped to the customer’s site.
What you will do:
Serve as the Liaison between Production: Each customer project is a prototype. Occasionally, issues arise where the design my not be able to be built or function as intended. The production team will bring these issues to the ME who will work with Engineering to create a viable solution as well as prevent similar issues on future designs. Work with Scheduling, Inventory and Production to produce the weekly and daily production schedule, keeping the project on schedule to be completed within the customers’ requirements. Have a firm understanding of production times and staffing capabilities. Manage the physical space of each project on the production floor, allowing multiple projects to be fabricated at the same time while minimizing conflicts. Document Processes: The fabrication processes used by the Production Technicians need to be documented, which will allow for training new employees as well as periodic review of each process for safer, higher quality and more cost-effective methods. Organize and Implement Process Improvements: Review the project build sequence, seeking opportunities to remove waste. Process Improvements can vary from modification to the current process as well as tooling that enables the production team to become more efficient. Manage the Capital Expenditure Request (CER) Process: In conjunction with process improvements, equipment that will allow increased efficiency will be requested from multiple departments. Manage the CER process which includes sourcing ideas and prioritizing ideas based on a Return on Investment (ROI) approach. Assist in drafting and sourcing approved CER requests. Sophomore or Junior in College working towards a 4-year degree in Industrial technology or Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent. Ability to work 10-15 hours per week during the school year, and full time during breaks. Experience with Solidworks Exposure to Lean Manufacturing Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position
