Facility Overview:

The Suffield, CT facility, which opened in 1965, manufactures and distributes ice cream and frozen desert products throughout New England, New York, and regional points along the East Coast.

Position Overview:

Under direction of the Maintenance Manager, will be responsible for ensuring that all grounds, buildings, and equipment are properly maintained in the most timely and cost-efficient manner. 

Job Responsibilities:

Lead, train, and motivate maintenance and reliability personnel to meet/exceed operational efficiency and production goals while maintaining compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. Manage allocation of resources and labor deployment for asset reliability and facility grounds maintenance. Optimize HVAC, mechanical and electrical preventive/predictive maintenance activities based on equipment histories, available technologies, and production requirements. Establish and maintain procedures and guidelines for RMP/PSM, HazMat, and other programs. Direct mechanical repair, ensuring proper repair of refrigeration equipment and ammonia systems. Lead the development and training of all maintenance and reliability personnel based on performance gaps and organizational capabilities, including (Computer Systems, Network Maintenance, and e-maintenance). Assist in developing reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to include safety, quality, cost, productivity, yield, and variances. Maintain ownership over specified maintenance and plant asset cost centers. Ensure effective utilization of the work order management and downtime reporting systems, escalating system reliability issues as needed. Drive the asset root cause analysis process focused on repetitive part or system failures to eliminate reoccurrence. Prepare the maintenance budget and oversee implementation of all capital projects for the plant. Lead member of the plant Safety Committee, conducting regular safety training for maintenance department. Direct the parts room to achieve established goals in inventory value as well as reliability parts. Systems this position is responsible for obtaining an operational level of understanding and technical ability on: • Steam and Condensate • Refrigeration/HVAC • Water supply (soft, domestic, etc.) • House air systems • Electrical systems • Fire suppression systems • Building structural design Show appropriate urgency in addressing equipment breakdowns. Efficiently use troubleshooting skills to resolve issues quickly. Pursue long term resolution to prevent recurrence.

Safety Responsibilities:

Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, following all safety policies, procedures, and rules; Report unsafe observations or conditions; Immediately report an injury or accident to a manager; Meet all company requirements for training, including but not limited to Log Out/Tag Out, HazMat Technician, PPE, PIT, Ergonomics, etc.

SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:

Support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner.  Support SQF through the monitoring of incoming services. Support SQF by maintaining the Preventive Maintenance Program and Work Order Program Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action. Position is backed up by other Maintenance personnel  Position is to serve as back up to the Maintenance Manager

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, and/or a combination of two years of college or vocational training in electrical and preferably additional training in HVAC, plumbing and associated trades. (i.e., building, construction, sanitation.) 5+ years of Maintenance experience within Food/Beverage/Dairy industry preferred. 5+ years as a maintenance mechanic, specific to electrical, buildings and grounds. At least 3+ years of supervisory or managerial experience required. Experience within PLC’s and Ammonia Refrigeration preferred. Experience working with outside vendors and contractors.

Stand:  Long periods (minimum of 6 hours) Sitting:  Occasionally for short periods. Walking:  Frequently. Bending:  Occasionally. Twisting of Spine:  Occasionally. Lifting:  Light (< 30 lbs) infrequently. Carrying:  Light (30-50 lbs) infrequently, distance 100 ft. Pushing/Pulling:  < 75 lbs without assistance frequently.

Special Requirements:

50-60 hour work week Ability to work weekends and holiday’s
