Role
As a Engineering Manager for our Observability applications at Splunk, you will lead a dynamic team in crafting cutting-edge software solutions that enhance how businesses monitor and analyze their systems. Your role involves driving technical strategy, enhancing product innovation, and maintaining alignment with business objectives. You will inspire your team to achieve excellence, pushing the boundaries of technology to meet complex customer demands and ensuring that our solutions lead the market in performance and reliability.
Responsibilities
Lead and grow a team of software engineers in the design, development, and optimization of innovative industry-leading applications in the Observability space.
Drive the execution of development projects, ensuring high standards of quality and timely delivery.
Promote standard processes in software development, including agile methodologies, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
Work closely with Product Management, Design, and other partners to define project requirements and deliverables.
Facilitate an environment of continuous improvement and innovation, encouraging team members to explore new technologies and approaches.
Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of applications through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
Develop strategic plans for the team's growth and development, aligning with the company’s long-term goals.
Plan, support, and actively handle the career development of team members by identifying and facilitating opportunities for training, professional growth, and progressive responsibility.
Improve collaboration across teams and geographies to maximize productivity and effectiveness.
Must-Have Qualifications
8+ years of experience in software development management, with a proven track record in application architecture and project management.
2+ years in a leadership role, managing and encouraging software development teams.
Strong proficiency in modern software development technologies and frameworks.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience in building scalable, high-quality applications.
Manage on-call processes to respond to performance and reliability issues, and establish standard processes for coordinating escalation to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in developing consumer-facing and enterprise applications.
Familiarity with cloud technologies and services from providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with microservices architectures and modern orchestration technologies.
Background in implementing robust security protocols and data protection measures.
Passionate about distributed systems and working with highly scalable services
Exposure to monitoring tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, etc. in order to build observability for large-scale microservice deployments.
Experience with security/compliance frameworks such as SOC2, PCI, and/or FedRAMP.
Bachelors/Masters or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
