About the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineering Manager / Principal Consultant to have a pivotal role in managing and coordinating pre-conceptual and conceptual engineering development work being carried out by multi-disciplinary teams in the development of Geological Disposal Facilities (GDF) in the UK and worldwide. This role is being created in response to the maturing nature of global GDF programmes worldwide and the need to further develop pre-conceptual and conceptual GDF designs in less mature programmes by integrating and refining relevant knowledge developed in more mature programmes. The role will focus on providing technical leadership and technical integration leadership to support our clients in a variety of challenges associated with development of disposal concept designs for High Heat Generating Waste (HHGW).
You will be central to the multi-year UK GDF design programme, delivering a range of desk‑based consultancy projects to incrementally and robustly enhance the current pre‑conceptual designs in parallel to the site selection process. Prospectively we envisage the role to support other international disposal programmes. Our established client portfolio with respect to radioactive waste disposal includes NWS, Nagra, SKB, ONDRAF-NIRAS and NND. In addition, you will also provide, as required, support to other projects in the areas of decommissioning and radioactive waste management.
The post offers the opportunity to apply your skills to solving real world problems in the nuclear industry in a customer-focused environment. The vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for experienced multidisciplinary engineering leaders wishing to further progress their careers in our technically challenging and commercially focussed business.
Key Responsibilities\:
The work includes a variety of desk-based activities integrating workstreams from a range of technical disciplines focusing on the development of disposal concept designs using a systems-based approach and ensuring integration of safety and design considerations.
Expectations of the candidate include\:
Lead project-specific multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated pre-conceptual and/or conceptual engineering solutions for radioactive waste disposal systems, including\:
o Interpretation and negotiation of client requirements;
o Work to assess, rationalise, deliver and document solutions to such requirements;
o Production of high-quality technical reports, either as main author or lead/coordinating author (i.e. assembling written work generated by other technical resources).
Lead business development activities (including competitive bidding) in relevant technical areas. In collaboration with Jacobs programme managers, scope work packages to enable procurement and subsequent delivery of the work from a programme and commercial perspective. Work with Programme Managers, Project Managers and Line Managers to technically steer and oversee team resources in establishing project goals, defining technical objectives and enable project delivery to cost, time and quality. Work with Programme Managers, Project Managers and Line Managers to liaise with commercial partners and clients. Mentor and support junior staff development.
The role can be based at our Harwell, Warrington, or Cumbria offices, but other locations will also be considered if required.
We are committed to the continuing professional development of our staff. You will have excellent opportunities to progress by furthering your technical, project management, engineering management, and commercial capabilities and further broadening your experience within the wider interests of our company. If you are looking for a new challenge and are passionate about developing yourself then we want to meet you.
