**About the Role**
The Java backend foundation team is crucial to our Developer Experience organization. It focuses on providing a robust Java platform and tools to solve Uber’s unique large-scale build, code, and dependency management challenges. We are looking for a seasoned engineering manager to lead the team in creating a best-in-class platform that enables the whole engineering organization to iterate rapidly.
\-\-\-\- What the Candidate Will Do ----
\\* Oversee, mentor, and manage a team of high-performing engineers. Foster a culture of ownership, growth, and innovation.
\\* Collaborate closely with Leadership and product teams to define the roadmap and vision for Uber’s backend Java ecosystems.
\\* Guide the team to leverage Gen-AI and other cutting-edge solutions to drive large code transformation to improve productivity
\-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
2. 8+ years of experience
\-\-\-\- Preferred Qualifications ----
1. An experienced engineering leader dedicated to people development, fostering a robust team environment, and cultivating an inclusive culture
2. Possess excellent communication skills, both internally and externally
3. A superb collaborator across teams who is proactive, able to drive alignment, and can clearly articulate tradeoffs with partner teams
4. Skilled in working with customers and demonstrating customer empathy by deeply understanding user needs, what constitutes a good user experience, and the ability to translate and prioritize user requirements into actionable tasks
5. Approach problems with a product mindset with experience in close partnerships with Product Management and Design
6. Proficient in data-driven decision-making
7. A creative problem solver who recognizes that conventional methods won't achieve our goals
8. An informed leader with a background in Software Engineering
9. Someone comfortable wearing multiple hats depending on the needs of the team

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
