Engineering Manager II - Map Search
**About the Role** The Location Search & Semantics team builds and maintains cutting edge Machine Learning systems to power Map Search & Recommendation at scale across Uber apps - pickup and destination search in the Rides, Eats, Connect etc. The team leverages large language models and other deep learning techniques to serve the most relevant places and address recommendations to users. As the Engineering Manager, you will be leading some of the best minds in the industry to solve challenging ML problems at scale to provide magical map search experience to riders booking trips and eaters ordering food in the Uber platform. What the Candidate Will Do ---- - Lead the team to deliver on multiple projects in an ambiguous and high-impact area - Work with your team and cross functional partners to define and influence strategy - Participate in ML and backend technical design - Drive roadmap creation and execution - Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals - Work effectively with cross functional partners and stakeholders to set and achieve optimal outcomes \-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ---- - 5+ years of hands-on machine learning work experience building large scale systems, algorithms, and toolsets within the Machine Learning domain. - In depth understanding of distributed systems supporting ML solutions at scale. - Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical team(s) in the machine learning domain. \-\-\-\- Preferred Qualifications ---- - Subject Matter Expert in NLP/Search & Recommendation domain. - Demonstrated experience in leading technical team(s) solving machine learning problems end-to-end in an ambiguous or high-impact area. - Highly Technical as well as effective people manager. For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
