GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
Under general supervision and with intermittent review, this position supports facility, program engineering, manufacturing, and assembly by serving as a liaison between the engineering, planning, and manufacturing departments. Reviews and monitors program development progress and expedites critical path components and processes to maintain schedule. Evaluates and helps to resolve engineering related production problems related to manufacturing, design, quality and material engineering. Helps to maintain physical control of program assets. May negotiate lead times with suppliers and manage schedules for timely delivery. This position is also responsible for planning, preparing, issuing and controlling production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed. This position involves the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance in support of the department, team, and program goals of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Helps to ensure the program has the parts and materials required for assembly, integration, and test (AIT) in accordance with the process, drawing, and BOM.Contributes to efficient operation of organization by participating in inputting or preparing short and long-range plans and schedules reports and providing progress follow-up and adjustment information; develops planning activities that support schedule development; schedules, monitors performance, analyzes and reports on activities to ensure flow of material.Develops manufacturing work orders in accordance with Material Requirement Planning (MRP) planned order requirements; guides manufacturing on action(s) to be taken.Investigates and resolves manufacturing related issues; performs product assessments for part or product designs; provides input for manufacturing processes and manufacturing technologies to meet cost and schedules.Processes work orders and material transactions for non-conformance material dispositions. Interprets engineering change orders (ECO), implements dispositions affecting stock, work in progress, and next higher assembly.Alerts direct manufacturing leadership to deviation from established norms or other metrics and indicators established.Purchases p-card items as needed to support the manufacturing shop floor and as directed.Has extensive knowledge of how the ERP, MES, and PLM systems support the production floor.Maintains project specific prototype inventory control and tracks consumable and limited life items. May perform the physical movement of hardware as a result of processing QN/NCR and ECO dispositions.Identifies issues in engineering and manufacturing and utilizes resources for resolution.Reviews engineering specifications and drawings. Confers across functional areas to provide and obtain technical information.Coordinates delivery schedule of raw materials and sub-assemblies from contractors.Monitors and reports on progress of manufactured parts required for the project/program.Assists in and/or monitors the design and development process by coordinating between various engineering and manufacturing departments.Coordinates engineering support for manufacturing requirements and ensures schedule parity.Coordinates Manufacturing Service Request activities by by getting schedule conflicts resolvedMonitors and analyzes open engineering issues affecting sales orders. Alerts planning department to open engineering issues that may affect manufacturing. Alerts engineering departments to sales order activity that may affect outstanding work.May conduct periodic program engineering/manufacturing planning meetings.Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
