Engineering Project Manager

The Engineering Project Manager will oversee and manage cross-functional projects within the food manufacturing environment, ensuring that initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. This individual will lead efforts to improve production processes, launch new products, implement automation, and enhance operational efficiency. As a key liaison between internal teams (operations, quality, engineering, R&D, supply chain) and external stakeholders (vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies), the Engineering Project Manager ensures alignment with strategic goals and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Here’s more of what you’ll get to do: Project Planning & Management: Lead end-to-end project management, from initiation to completion, for multiple large-scale projects including new product launches, facility expansions, and process improvement initiatives. Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, coordinating tasks across internal teams and external stakeholders. Ensure all projects align with the company's business objectives, operational goals, and regulatory requirements. Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with operations, quality assurance, supply chain, engineering, R&D, and other departments to ensure seamless project execution. Facilitate regular communication between stakeholders, providing updates on progress, risks, and project milestones. Engage with senior leadership to report on project performance and advise on potential risks or opportunities. Risk Management: Identify, analyze, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle. Proactively adjust project plans to address issues that could affect timelines, cost, or quality. Budget & Resource Management: Create and submit Capital Appropriation Requests for approval. Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and staying within financial limits. Allocate resources efficiently, optimizing team productivity while maintaining high standards of output. Process Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by analyzing production processes, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending solutions. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to drive operational excellence and cost reduction. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all projects adhere to food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP). Manage documentation and reporting for compliance audits. Vendor & Supplier Management: Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and third-party vendors to ensure materials and services are delivered on time and meet quality standards. Negotiate contracts and manage relationships to ensure project success. What we require: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Food Science, or a related field. MBA or PMP certification is preferred. 8+ years of project management experience in the food manufacturing industry. Proven experience managing large-scale, cross-functional projects, including new product introductions, process improvements, and capital projects. Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP). Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously. Hands-on problem-solving ability. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, and familiarity with ERP systems. Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies. Experience with Ammonia Refrigeration, Facility Automation, Equipment Maintenance, Packaging, and Conveying Systems. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to think strategically. Willingness to travel occasionally to other sites or vendor locations. Here’s what we prefer: Degreed mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineer. PE License. PMP (project management professional) certification. Experience managing multi-million-dollar projects.
