About this Position:
This posting is for structural fabrication inspection located at numerous plants across the state and neighboring states. This position is responsible for quality assurance inspections for pre-stressed concrete pilings and girders. Please see the Examples of Work below for the complete position description.
This position requires travel across the state and to neighboring states.
Engineering Technician 1- Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Engineering Technician 1 – 4 (the duties may vary depending on the level at which the incumbent is hired)
This posting is for structural fabrication inspection located at numerous plants across the state and neighboring states. This position is responsible for quality assurance inspections for pre-stressed concrete pilings and girders. Travel will be required.
50% Assists higher level technicians in inspecting the fabrication of structural steel members of fabrication plants by ensuring that all materials and production procedures comply with DOTD Standards and Specifications. Steel members that fail to meet Department standards may result in substandard bridges and overpasses. It is the incumbent's responsibility to ensure that those members meet all Department standards and specifications. The incumbent has the authority to shut down plants whose products and/or production methods fail to meet DOTD Standards and Specifications. Incumbent also assists in training lower level technicians to perform inspections.
30% Represents the Department in pre-fabrication meetings at the plants to determine conformance of all material, welding procedures, welding personnel qualifications, coatings, and shipping, to all applicable codes, specifications and standards. Confers with fabrication plant's personnel, including Plant Supervisor, to facilitate the inspection and production of members to be used in DOTD construction projects. Reviews and monitors the fabrication plant's Quality Control Program for compliance, as well as the personnel involved.
10% Maintains field book inspection reports, scans and indexes documents into Archive System. Performs a visual inspection of the storage area to determine acceptability (accuracy and quality of workmanship) of fabricated structural products, in order to approve payment to the Contractor for the product stored and ready to be used for DOTD projects (stockpile payment).
5% Completes any and all required training, as mandated by the Department's Structured Training Program; stays abreast of changes relevant to Department policies and procedures.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
