Job Title: Engineering Technician Job Description The Engineering Technician role involves material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete, concrete density, and steel. A typical day includes visiting multiple job sites throughout central Iowa. The role may involve interacting with contractors and project owners. Responsibilities include collecting samples of soil or concrete, foundation testing, verifying reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings, and logging and tracking testing data for concrete and soil. Responsibilities + Perform material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, NDT, concrete, concrete density, and steel. + Visit multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa. + Interact with contractors and project owners as needed. + Collect and test samples of soil and concrete. + Conduct foundation testing and verify reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings. + Log and track data from testing equipment for concrete and soil. Essential Skills + Experience in soil, concrete, and aggregate testing. + Knowledge of construction materials and environmental science. + Proficiency in using nuclear density gauges. + Ability to conduct non-destructive testing. + Experience with construction observation and geoscience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + 2+ years of construction testing experience in earth, dirt work, concrete, steel, or related materials. + Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a similar field is preferred. + Experience with nuclear density, aggregate, asphalt, and transportation-related projects is preferred. + Active driver's license required. Work Environment Work 45-55 hours per week, sometimes 6 days a week. Start times vary between 5am - 7am and work until the job is done, currently averaging 45 hours minimum. The team includes 15 field technicians and 6 office staff (2 administrative, 3 project managers, 1 engineer). Most clients are based in the Midwest, including IL, MN, and WI.
