Job Description
In the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) or Geotechnical department, the role of a civil engineering technician involves a combination of fieldwork and laboratory tasks. The technician ensures the safety and stability of construction projects by providing accurate data and quality assurance throughout the construction process.
ResponsibilitiesPerform on-site testing of construction materials like soil, concrete, and asphalt to ensure they meet project specifications and standards.Collect soil samples from various depths and locations, then conduct laboratory tests to determine properties such as compaction, moisture content, and bearing capacity.Assist in geotechnical site investigations, which involve drilling and sampling to assess subsurface conditions.Gather data from field tests and laboratory analyses, then compile and report findings to engineers for further evaluation.Ensure that construction materials and processes comply with design specifications and regulatory standards.Operate and maintain testing equipment, such as nuclear density gauges and concrete testing machines.Essential SkillsExperience in engineering, CMT, and construction materials testing.ACI certification.Skills in soils testing and concrete testing.ICC certification.Additional Skills & QualificationsEngineering Degree.Interest in the skillset.Work Environment
The work environment includes both fieldwork and laboratory settings. Technicians use various testing equipment such as nuclear density gauges and concrete testing machines. The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $35.00
