Engineering Technician
Job Title: Engineering Technician Job Description Responsible for operating test benches in R&D engineering lab. Responsibilities include testing, troubleshooting test apparatus, connecting filters to benches, replacing pumps, replacing seals, starting tests, and documenting results. Tests include structural, integrity, end of life, and efficiency tests. Oversee the mechanical upkeep and calibration of these tests. Participate in the development of new technology, new products, or modifications to existing products to meet technical requirements within time and cost constraints. Responsibilities + Consult with test requestors and/or lab manager to determine appropriate testing methods and understand desired outcomes for standard products. + Set up and conduct performance tests using established standardized formats and procedures to identify performance ratings without supervision. + Adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet more complex testing requirements with supervision. + Prepare accurate test data for interpretation and analysis. + Identify test equipment issues and communicate them to technicians or supervisors. + Operate and maintain lab equipment to ensure accuracy and efficiency of testing. + Assist with equipment calibration and perform basic test bench maintenance under supervision. + Keep lab manager informed of testing activity and challenges on an ongoing basis. + Perform operational lab duties as assigned. + Effectively meet established deadlines. + Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Essential Skills + Mechanical testing + Mechanical aptitude + Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy + Experience with LabVIEW + Troubleshooting skills + Understanding of engineering principles + Knowledge of automotive manufacturing + Experience with hydraulics and hydraulic assembly + Familiarity with valves and mechanical systems + Maintenance technician skills Additional Skills & Qualifications + Associate's Degree in engineering technology, automotive technology, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience + Previous experience as a technician or in a related field preferred + Working knowledge of test equipment and test standards + Demonstrated ability to understand cause and effect relationships within automated control systems + Fundamental understanding of measurement and control systems and calibration practices + Ability to adapt to changing priorities and take direction from supervisors and team members + Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information concisely and accurately + Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness of data, reports, and records + Good organizational skills and ability to multitask + Ability to work well with others to achieve common goals + Professional conduct at all times Work Environment The position is within the Liquid Multipass Lab, focusing on the durability and efficiency of filters for liquid applications, such as diesel fuel. Responsibilities include mechanical testing and upkeep of test benches. The role will be working on the multipass bench. Initially, training will be on the 1st shift for the first couple of months, with a potential opportunity to move to the 1st shift after a year, but likely to stay on the 2nd shift for the time being. 1st shift hours: Mon-Fri: 6:30 AM – 3 PM 2nd shift hours: Mon-Thurs: 2 PM – 10:30 PM, Fri: 10 AM – 6:30 PM Dress code: Engineering casual (collared shirt) PPE: Safety shoes (steel toe) and safety glasses required in labs.
