Engineering Technician
Job Title: Construction Engineering Technician in Des Moines! Job Description We are seeking an Engineering Technician to join our team. The role involves material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete, concrete density, and steel. A typical day includes visiting multiple job sites throughout central Iowa, interacting with contractors and project owners, collecting samples of soil or concrete, and conducting foundation testing. You will also ensure that reinforcing steel complies with shop drawings, log concrete tests, and track test results from machines used in testing concrete and soil. Responsibilities + Conduct material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, NDT, concrete, concrete density, and steel. + Visit multiple job sites daily across central Iowa. + Interact with contractors and project owners. + Collect soil or concrete samples and perform foundation testing. + Ensure reinforcing steel complies with shop drawings. + Log and track test results from machines used in testing concrete and soil. Essential Skills + 2+ years of Construction Testing experience in Earth, Dirt Work, Concrete, Steel, or related materials. + Active Driver's License. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a similar field is preferred. + Experience with soil sampling, environmental science, and geoscience. + Knowledge of using nuclear density gauges and ACI certifications. Work Environment This is a family-run company with a supportive and collaborative culture. The average tenure is over 15 years, highlighting our commitment to investing in our people. We offer company vehicles for travel to and from job sites and provide flexibility with time-off needs. Work hours range from 40-60 hours a week, sometimes extending to 6 days a week, with start times between 5am and 7am. Overnight stays are rare, occurring about 10 nights per season. Our team consists of 10 field technicians and 6 office staff, including administrative personnel, project managers, and an engineer. The work environment is casual and requires resilience and a good sense of humor. Most projects are located in the Midwest, with some extending to Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
