Job Title: Engineering Technician
Job Description
As an Engineering Technician, you will perform material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete, concrete density, and steel. Your typical day will involve visiting multiple job sites throughout central Iowa, interacting with contractors and project owners, collecting soil or concrete samples, performing foundation testing, ensuring reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings, and logging and tracking machine test results for concrete and soil.
Responsibilities
+ Perform material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, NDT, concrete, concrete density, and steel.
+ Visit multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa.
+ Interact with contractors and project owners.
+ Collect soil and concrete samples.
+ Perform foundation testing.
+ Ensure reinforcing steel compliance with shop drawings.
+ Log and track machine test results for concrete and soil.
Essential Skills
+ Construction testing experience in earth, dirt work, concrete, steel, or related materials preferred.
+ Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a similar field (preferred).
+ Active driver's license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with soil, concrete, test samples, construction, aggregate, asphalt, NDT, environmental, civil, geology, nuclear gauge, and nuclear density gauge.
+ Knowledge in geoscience, soil sampling, environmental science, nondestructive testing, and concrete construction.

The work environment includes a family-run company where managers assist with projects and support in any role where they can help. The average tenure is 15+ years, indicating a strong investment in employees. The company offers a vehicle for travel to and from sites, flexibility with time off, and opportunities for overtime. Overnight travel is rare, with work hours ranging from 40-60 hours a week, starting between 5am - 7am. The team consists of 10 field technicians and 6 office staff (2 administrative, 3 project managers, and 1 engineer). The company maintains a small, family-like feel, with a tough-skinned, humorous atmosphere and spends time together outside of work. Most clients are in the Midwest, with some in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
