Job Description
The Paint Engineering Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in the paint area. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical & electrical schematics, control circuits, PLC logic, and automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in troubleshooting and optimizing the function of machinery and equipment used in manufacturing, and production processes.Previous experience with paint development or applications are a major plus. You will serve as a technical resource and project support in the development and application of paint processes, and be an integral part of the new color development process. You will be responsible for cost and quality improvements and maintaining daily operations to achieve division goals.
Job Responsibilities
Communicate with and support up to a 24-hour / day manufacturing operation
Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and program electrical control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs.
Interpret electrical schematics and control circuit diagrams to diagnose issues and ensure proper installation.
Interpret mechanical schematics and machine diagrams to diagnose issues and ensure proper installation of mechanical equipment.
Maintain, diagnose and repair all electrical, electronic and mechanical troubles.
Work with wiring, hydraulic and pneumatic schematic drawings.
Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new control systems and update existing ones.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely solutions to restore functionality.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Train and mentor maintenance technicians on control system operations and safety practices.
Keep detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and installations for future reference and compliance purposes.
The use of ladders, raised platforms, caged lifts, and manual climbing on equipment at various heights up to and including 40 feet is required.
Plan, layout and install complex wiring circuits in conformance with established codes, install switches and controls panels, electronic devices.
Use all electrical measuring and testing devices.
Support proper implementation of new processes & equipment
Troubleshoot manufacturing electrical and programming issues
Identify root cause, analyze and solve manufacturing process issues and equipment related problems
Provide leadership and development to maintenance staff to diagnose and solve equipment issues as first line of engineering support
Provide technical support to production and work teams and serve as a technical resource for the department
Support maintaining stability in day to day operations
Analyze, evaluate and document standards according to quality system requirements such as Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments and LOTO procedures
Provide a critical link between the department and other process partners such as product design, assembly, paint, maintenance, safety, quality, etc.
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 5 years of experience as an engineering / maintenance technician or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Associates Degree or higher in technical/equivalent field with work experience OR Journeyman’s card OR equivalent experience to a Journeyman (ex: previous engineering experience, ie)
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics and control diagrams.
Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming, VFDs, HMIs, and other control system components.
Familiarity with national and local electrical codes and regulations.
Excellent problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills to interact with team members and other departments.
A commitment to ongoing education and staying current with technological advancements in the field.
Strong computer skills (SAP, Google Suite, AutoCAD)
Hands-on experience with low voltage (480V and below) electrical applications
Able to work overtime as needed.

Programming ability in AB Suite (PLC), Fanuc Robotics, KUKA Robotics, and Mitsubishi CNC controls
Strong mechanical knowledge
Working knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
Working knowledge of Nordson Powdercoating technology
Experience in paint/coatings applications
Knowledge of 2D Autocad / 3D Modeling
