Summary You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Crane Maintenance Planning Division, Code 710 of PSNS and IMF. Responsibilities You will interpret specifications and instructions and assures rigging equipment adequacy. You will implement use of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) technical standards, and the format of engineering (rigging) drawings/sketches. You will initiate and investigate potential improvements and recommend drawing and material specification changes as required. You will prepare sketches and diagrams depicting site layouts and lifting/material handling equipment capabilities and capacities. You will review existing database of rigging drawings and procedures to determine their current validity. You will perform studies and research related to use of existing or new equipment. You will determine how to handle the movement (vertical and horizontal) of loads via either lifting and handling equipment or material handling equipment. You will make recommendations regarding fabrication techniques for rigging equipment, innovative use of existing equipment, and recommendations for new equipment. You will assess capacity, reach, lift, stability, available space, wheel or outrigger support requirements, and overall feasibility of using particular equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical engineering services by analyzing in-process operations or researching technical instructions to identify issues and develop or modify work processes for continued method and operational improvement. (e.g. utilizing Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) technical standards, recommending fabrication techniques for rigging equipment, or developing an innovative use of existing and new equipment that meets standard work practices.)
