SUBSTITUTIONS: Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED. College training will substitute for a maximum of four years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience, provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one of these specialized fields: architecture, cartography, chemistry, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, geography, geology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math or physics.All specialized coursework must be in the same specialized field. A combination of coursework from different fields will not be accepted. Full time training in sub-professional engineering from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis for a maximum of one year of experience. Completion of a two year course of study in a sub-professional engineering curriculum from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required experience. A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology will substitute for all of the required experience. This position gives advice and guidance in all phases of electrical construction for the Department of Transportation and Development, including movable bridges, airports, interstate lighting, rest centers and pumping stations on a statewide bases. This position regularly meets with design personnel from the Department concerning construction of electrical installations. This position acts as a liaison between electrical contractors and the Department's personnel when conflicts arise. This position meets with the Federal Highway Administration, various sewer and water boards, airports, and consulting engineering firms concerning electrical matters. This position must keep abreast with National Electrical Code and the National Fire Protection Association Electrical Inspection Manual. This position works around danger when in field, due to traffic and possible electric shock or electrocution. This position provides technical expertise to the Fabrication Engineer, Electrical Engineers, and Bridge Design, in preventing and resolving contract disputes involving field electrical installation and code requirements. 75% Provides technical expertise in the field of electrical construction to assist the Project Engineer, Contractor, and Design Engineers in resolving any discrepancies that may occur between the plans and specifications throughout the term of the project. These projects are on a statewide basis. Perf01ms sub-professional engineering electrical work throughout the State on a daily basis, beginning at the planning stages of the project and continuing through its' completion. This position functionally supervises the Project Engineer's Construction Inspectors within area of responsibility, with only general guidance from supervisor. This functional supervision includes all phases of electrical construction handled by the Department, including movable bridges, airports, interstate roadway lighting, traffic signals, rest areas, and pumping stations to ensure that each project is constructed in accordance with project plans, contract specifications, appropriate National Electrical codes, National Fire Protection Association, and specific procedures for each project. 10% Participates in plan-in-hand field meetings and field reviews between the Construction and Design Section held prior to letting, using expertise in field construction techniques to assist the Electrical Construction Engineer in resolving discrepancies that result between the plans and actual field conditions. Participates , statewide, in pre-construction conferences and office reviews between the Construction Section and the contractor, which are held to resolve any electrical questions and/or problems the Contractor has encountered during review of the plans and specifications, but prior to beginning construction. 10% Assist the Structural Fabrication unit in its other areas of responsibilities of Steel fabrication, Precast/Prestressed Concrete, and Coating inspection. 5% May perform other duties as required, including but not limited too emergency/disaster duties.
