Engineering Technician I
Support prototype manufacturing and testing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties include the following - other duties may be assigned: Technician Level I: Responsible for shooting, cleaning ranges, assisting engineers and technician team in shooting activities. Technician Level II: Responsible for all Level I duties plus running tests with additional shooters from outside the department, prototyping parts in machine shop, rapid prototype (3D printers), preparing/running tests and evaluations, proficiency in more in-depth fire arms tests such as drop, hot cold, level, cycle testers, proof, accuracy, etc. Technician Level III: Responsible for all Level I and II duties. In addition, responsible for placing work orders, purchase requisitions, and using SAP for scrapping guns. Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in either machine shop or 3D printers. Demonstrates a high competency level in setting up, running and completing tests. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Competencies and Education * Candidates must have an associate degree, technical school certificate or 2 years minimum equivalent experience * Background in technical writing preferred * Experience with instrumentation and sensors preferred * Machine shop * Highly organized and motivated, with strong ability to manage/monitor detail * Ability to communicate effectively with user group * Demonstrated proficiency with firearms and safe handling * Machinist/Toolmaker is a plus Language Skills * Must have working command of the English language * Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language * Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (basic verbal instructions, simple written memos and instructions) Computer Skills * Solid computer skills, with demonstrated proficiency in MS word, Excel and Outlook, Solidworks & Camworks Certificates, Licenses, Registration * None TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: * Participate in and follow all company initiatives * Participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen events, 5S, etc.) PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: * Mandatory wearing of certified safety glasses * The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear * All employees are required to apply ergonomic principles to all job tasks PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Continuous: standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing/pulling, and reaching * Occasional: kneeling, sitting, squatting, overhead work, fine and gross upper body motor movement * Maximum lift: to 30 pounds and assisted lifting * Occasional lifting: 0 to 30 pounds WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting * Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations.
