JOB SUMMARY\n
The purpose of this classification is to conduct inspections and surveys of new water main construction to ensure compliance with system specifications and to prepare engineering drawings using computer-aided design and conventional methods for new and replacement water line construction. \n
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: \n\nConducts inspections and surveys of water lines to ensure compliance with system specifications. Uses GPS and conventional surveying technologies.\nProduces computer-aided designs for the installation of new water lines; creates or revises as-built drawings to indicate the location of mains, valves, etc. Generates permits and work orders.\nInspect construction of water mains to ensure compliance with standards.\nMediate conflicts between contractor and public or contractor and government agencies. Act as liaison between contractor and government organizations.\nProduces state and county drawings for encroachment permits.\nLocates water mains as needed.\nReceives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from customers regarding engineering projects and services.\nReceives, reviews, prepares and\/or submits various records and reports including architectural drawings, work orders, utility location requests, water sample results, pressure test results, payment requests, change orders, test orders, engineering drawings, as-built drawings, materials lists, memos, correspondence, etc.\nInteracts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department supervisors and employees, customers, engineers, architects, developers, contractors, sales representatives, City\/County personnel, property\/business owners, and the general public.\nConducts water pressure\/flow tests.\nConducts valve and meter surveys.\nGPS new valves for mapping purposes.\nResearches account files, plans, etc., as necessary for project planning and administration.\nReproduces drawings; copies and files documents; and performs other clerical work as required.\nPerforms other related duties as required.\n\n

Minimum Qualifications Engineering Tech I: \n
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years of experience as a Designer\/Inspector, is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license, and a valid Class B Water Distribution Operator's license. An associate's degree in drafting or engineering technology is preferred.\n

Minimum Qualifications Engineering Tech II\n
Associate's Degree in civil engineering, supplemented by five (5) years of experience as Engineering Technician I, is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license, and a valid Class B Water Distribution Operator's license
