The Photogrammetry Unit acquires aerial imagery and generates geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction. The unit also partners with other government agencies for statewide orthophotography and aerial LiDAR elevation data programs serving as NCDOT's subject matter experts for aerial surveying. We have an opening for an Engineering Technician I to provide entry level technical to support higher level technicians and engineers.
In this position, you will provide:
+ Basic level technical support for the planning and production of photogrammetric mapping for functional design, preliminary design, final design, digital mission support files, film image scanning, digital image plotting, image processing, calculation of construction earthwork pay quantities, or beta testing of new, moderately complex, processes and procedures.
+ Operation of various hardware devices and software programs to perform most of their assigned duties.
+ Operation of a sophisticated photogrammetric analytical stereoplotting instrument and software to stereoscopically view digital aerial imagery and review/compile planimetric features and terrain features.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Working knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories of professional transportation and geomatics concepts used in photogrammetry, lidar, surveying, and GIS as related to highway location, design, and construction.
+ Knowledge of the use and operation of CADD and mapping software and equipment associated with photogrammetric processes used to generate mapping.
+ Experience reviewing routine or simple photogrammetric mapping, lidar mapping, or engineering surveys for compliance with established mapping standards and specifications.
+ Experience expressing routine or simple technical facts and maintaining records and work-specific notes in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
+ Demonstrated ability to perceive overlapping aerial imagery stereoscopically in three dimensions and interpret planimetric and terrain features relatively correctly.

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted-up accordingly as the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
