Job Description:
Assist in locating all underground utility facilities. This is highly responsible and technical work involving operating equipment and instruments in order to locate, mark and protect main service lines used for electric, chilled water, steam, water, wastewater, fiber-optic, gas, and reclaimed water facilities. Assist with locating in the repair of all Utility systems during emergencies.
Processes dig permit applications. Assist the permit applicant in the initiation of the permit application by providing instructions regarding the process to the applicant, coordination of the process with other related University procedures, scheduling locale of University-owned underground utilities for the applicant, approving completed Dig Permit requests, and retaining records of permit issuance. Ensures that all applicants follow the procedures according to the University of Florida Dig Permit, Sunshine One call and OSHA Excavation guide lines.
Assist in coordinating field appointments with other utilities to locate and mark buried facilities in the vicinity of construction work.
Assist and perform monthly meter reading and assist in the maintenance of all aspects of the University of Florida FS Utility metering system. Work with computer software, accessing prints using AutoCAD, GIS. Assists the utilities staff and project managers on location of existing underground assets and assists in identifying underground assets as they are discovered.
A criminal background and post-offer health assessment will be conducted.
5 days a week; Rotating On-Call schedule within the group to cover emergency utility failures and emergency locate requests.
Drives a state vehicle that requires a valid driver license.
Expected Salary:
$20.59 - $21.00 based on experience.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of approved principles, methods, materials used in electric, water, wastewater, gas, reclaimed water and telecommunications construction, maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of construction work.
Must be able to interpret utilities systems construction blueprints and drawings.
Must be able to work effectively with co-workers and the general public
