This is an apprentice level technician, located in Buncombe County, which involves technical work supporting higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection, surveying, sampling materials, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. As an entry level professional at the NCDOT, Apprentices are offered a starting salary of $35,984 and are eligible to receive salary adjustments upon successful completion of all apprentice steps. Upon completion of the program, Apprentices will be eligible for a salary of $48,036. To remain eligible for the program, enrollment in community college Associates degree program is required. This position is expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain. This position will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
