Engineering Technician III
Bowhead seeks an Engineering Technician III position in support of an engine research facility, specializing in vehicle engines and drives research, involving the installation and testing of engines and drives facility and operation of support systems. The selected candidate should have a minimum of five years of professional experience, three years directly related to this position. This position is located at Abderdeen Proving Ground, MD.
ResponsibilitiesTechnician is responsible for assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, will select or adapt standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, will receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, and will perform recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
Installation of research/test articles (several types of internal combustion and gas turbine engines), interfacing engines/drives (piping and shaft sizing), and operation of test support hardware with facility systems. Assemble, align, balance, and disassemble precision rotating machinery and experimental hardware including: engines, gearboxes, transmissions, shafts and couplings with specialized tools for precision interference fits and torque specifications. Following specific instructions, assemble, construct, or install standard equipment, and fabricate custom parts needed to instrument and install engines in test cell. Operate test rigs and collects experimental data. Troubleshoot a variety of laboratory equipment and facility support systems and correct malfunctions. Operation of overhead crane, pallet jacks, fork trucks, and material handling techniques. Responsible for creating operational and maintenance procedures and ensuring equipment availability and reliability for timely and effective operation of facilities and equipment. Comply with all applicable safety rules, installation requirements, OSHA codes, and SOPs. Assist with purchases upon familiarization with the organizational purchasing process.Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree or completion of a trade school programMinimum five years of professional experience with three years directly related to this position Knowledge of internal combustion engine subsystems and operation, aftermarket engine modifications, and/or knowledge of drive systems Hands-on work with engines/drives test systemsIntermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contactsStrong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Welding experience (MIG/TIG) will be beneficial Knowledge of computer networks and systems will be beneficial Solidworks3D PrintingForklift LicenseCrane Operation License
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.Must be able to engage in prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, or stooping.Technician will regularly be exposed to loud noise.Technician may perform some work outdoors and at heights.Technician will perform work occasionally with lasers and high voltage.Technician will be exposed to fuels, lubricants, and exhaust.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must cbe able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
