We are hiring one (1) full time, temporary (up to 12 months) Engineering Technologist position working out of Edmonton, AB.
This role involves providing information and advice on water and sewer servicing, maintaining as-built information within the City of Edmonton, and ensuring compliance with bylaws and standards.
What you’d be responsible forReview and Compliance of Engineering and Stormwater Management PlansCheck for conflicting infrastructure and utilities horizontally and verticallyCoordinate with other EPCOR departments, City departments, utility companies and other municipalities to ensure the water and sewer services do not conflict with other proposed utilitiesReview utility right-of-way, restrictive covenants and land title documentsAdvise on Procedures for New Service Applications of Residential and Commercial DevelopmentsCheck plot and building plans for elevations and service connection optionsCheck for conflicting infrastructure and utilities horizontally and vertically. Advise on potential conflictsGuide the customer through the water and sewer service process by acting as the one point contact from the time of development permit application to the final service installationAccept payments for new water, sanitary, foundation and storm servicesCreate new jobs along with service applications and construction work order numbers Send construction orders including all required agreements within two working days of receiving paymentCollect, update and maintain water and sewer as-built information through historical data and/or data requested from field personnel and update inventory systems (Posse, Micro Station and Geofit) as requiredAdvise water and sewer applicants by telephone or by written response with servicing information and other drainage related inquiriesPrepare and submit monthly servicing statisticsProvide the existing water and sewer servicing locations to utility locators, developers, contractors, builders and home ownersAdvise on EPCOR and City of Edmonton standards, bylaws, guidelines and storm water management requirementsAssist and coordinate with other EPCOR departments and City departments by providing water and sewer service locations, Water and Drainage bylaws and standards for the following: Drainage Development NotificationsEncroachmentsPark CirculationsReview and approve private development drawings and assign application numbersPerform Q&A on as-built information and make recommendations for the “Final Acceptance Certificate”Provide ongoing input on process improvements as it pertains to the Water and Sewer Servicing (WASS) group and the Water and Drainage Planning sectionsPrepare and send out additional water projects as required (water service abandonments, renewals, new service, reconnections, etc.)What’s required to be successfulA two year diploma in Civil or Engineering Design & Drafting Technology from a recognized technical institution is required0-3 years of directly related experienceMembership with ASET as a CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) or eligibility for membershipKnowledge of water and sewer systems including Engineering Design and construction of municipal utility servicesKnowledge of construction standards and methods in the field (ie. MH, Bridging etc.)General knowledge of internal mechanical plumbing and building systemsKnowledge of Drainage Bylaws, Drainage Design & Construction Standards, Lot Grading Guidelines , Provincial Legislation, Condo Act, Zoning Bylaws, EPCOR Water Construction Standards, Building and Plumbing CodesAbility to calculate inverts, obverts and crossing elevations for sanitary and storm servicesUnderstanding of various types of engineering plansAbility to interpret surface contours and elevationsAbility to identify servicing conflicts by reviewing other utility plansProvide technical customer service to the publicMust have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with the public and internal and external customersDetailed knowledge of municipal and civil design and draftingStrong interpersonal and problem solving skills and the ability to work in a team environmentA high level of time management skills and the ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlinesOther important facts about this job

Wage: Starting at $39.23 per hour (Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement)
Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly
