Job Description
We are seeking an Engineering Technologist to support major distribution projects across North Carolina. This role involves upgrading distribution infrastructure, including retrofitting transformers, replacing deteriorating cables, moving overhead lines underground, reconductoring existing lines, and replacing aging poles. The ideal candidate will take field notes back to the office and design them in BOUD, a software similar to MicroStation, and utilize it for creating bills of materials. This position requires preparing project and job packages using Expert Designer and WMIS, including material estimates and requisitions for the necessary distribution electrical designs in 2D.
ResponsibilitiesRetrofitting transformers and replacing deteriorating cables.Moving overhead lines to underground and reconductoring existing distribution lines.Replacing aging poles.Designing projects in BOUD and creating bills of materials.Preparing project and job packages using Expert Designer and WMIS.Estimating materials and requisitioning materials for distribution electrical designs.Essential SkillsDrafting and designing experience.Knowledge of distribution/power systems.Proficiency in AutoCAD.Graduation from a two-year or four-year college or university with a B.S.Experience or basic knowledge in the electric utility industry, including primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards.Ability to use design software packages and general construction knowledge.Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.Researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations.Good written and oral communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and initiative.Additional Skills & QualificationsLeadership and/or customer interaction experience in different industries (retail, restaurant, etc.).Experience on the relevant system performing distribution design.Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects.Knowledge of BOUD, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and MicroStation.EIT/Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam.Work Environment
Work is performed at the Raleigh office, with flexibility to work from home after training. Employees are not required to be in the office five days a week but are expected to maintain a team environment by coming in more than once a week. The office environment is positive, with an engaged team and a spacious 1900 sqft office featuring amenities such as a foosball table and shuffleboard. The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00
