Job Summary: This position work under the direct supervision of the Equipment Superintendent. The Shop Assistant will provide general support for equipment and shop activities as defined by their manager. This position requires someone who has a can-do attitude, possesses a strong desire to grow, is a quick learner, and is self-motivated. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and have excellent customer service skills. Education: · 2 year technical degree or certificate in automotive or marine or diesel · CDL is preferred. Will hire non-CDL but must be willing to get CDL in 6 months after hire Experience: · 1-2 years as mechanic in automotive, marine or construction. · Troubleshooting and diagnosing hydraulic systems · Rebuilding hydraulic tools · Small engines · Low voltage (12v-24V) Skills: · Reliable and punctual · Willing to learn new things · Good communication skills and the ability to work well with other · Able to read and comprehend instructions · Aptitude for technical and practical work · Clean driving record and valid driver’s license Responsibilities: · Minor repairs on all project related equipment ranging from generators, compressors, work trucks, forklifts, outboards, and other medium sized gas/diesel equipment. · Performs general maintenance, including hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic diagnosis and repair on trucks and equipment · Completes routine inspections on trucks and equipment as necessary · Assist with Inventory management, cleaning, and prep. · Assist in un-used parts and material return · Assisting in equipment maintenance needs · Assisting shop projects · Assist or Diagnose equipment problems and repair or source vendors · Maintain a clean and safe work environment per the state’s PSHA and Health Acts laws. · Assist in updating logs and documentation for inventory processing · Wear safety gear at all times · Ensure workspace is free of debris and remove safety hazards from walkways and bay doors · Pick up and deliver of parts and supplies · Diagnose equipment problems and repair or source vendors · Offloading and loading in and out of bound trucks with the forklift · Maintain the equipment yard · Other tasks as assigned by shop lead Physical Demands / Working Environment: · Frequently working on or near moving and vibrating equipment up to 50% of the time · Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands · Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride, or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc. · Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time · Ability to lift and carry 50 to 100 pounds for short distances · Ability to wear personal protective clothing and equipment Benefits: Ballard offers a comprehensive benefits package and provides a culture that values opportunity for growth, development, and internal promotion.
