Posting Details Position Information Job Title English Department Social Media Intern - Spring 2025 Department English Job Description/Duties The internship would include managing the English Department social media accounts by creating and planning content to promote the department’s faculty, students, events, and fundraising opportunities. Interns would also assist with the English Department Newsletter.
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will demonstrate rhetorical awareness of genre, audience, purpose, and context.
2. Students will compose writing that increases the visibility of their work through social media channels, newsletters, and digital advertising, developing a portfolio of work
3. Students will practice creative independence and self-motivated project development
4. Students will develop community-building skills and gain an awareness of the needs of stakeholders in the English Department
Interns will be mentored by faculty members on the English Department’s Student Engagement and Retention Committee (SERC). Faculty members will guide the interns in the use of Department social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook) and mentor them in writing content for the Department’s newsletter, which gives students the opportunity to cover campus events, interview faculty and students, and gain experience addressing audiences such as alumni and prospective students. In-person meetings with a faculty mentor will occur at least every two weeks, though meetings and email communications may also occur more frequently as needed. Though mentorship is an important part of the experience, student interns also have independence and creative license in suggesting new ideas and developing content. The social media posts they create, as well as the Newsletter articles they write, give them a tangible portfolio of materials by the end of the semester to show to prospective employers. The faculty mentor’s goal is to allow student interns to adapt the position in the ways that are most meaningful and pertinent to their own career paths. Days/Hours Needed 80 hours total over course of semester; around 6 hours per week
