ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Risk Management (ERM) Team Our key risk management aim is to maximize Berkley’s return on capital over the long term for an acceptable level of risk. This requires regular interaction with senior management both in corporate and our business units. The ERM team comprises ERM actuaries and catastrophe modelers responsible for identification, quantification and reporting on insurance, investment, credit and operational risks. The ERM team is a corporate function at Berkley’s headquarters in Greenwich, CT.
The RoleThe successful candidate will play a pivotal role in a variety of projects with a focus on casualty accumulation, catastrophe modeling, and emerging risks. The candidate is expected to demonstrate expertise in handling both quantitative and qualitative information. The candidate will have opportunities to lead discussions on key risk topics with C-suites of our business units as well as senior executives from other corporation functions. An actuarial credential is preferred but NOT required for the role. Key responsibilities include:
Casualty Accumulation
• Lead the development and optimization of the casualty data ETL process
• Analyze and visualize casualty accumulations by insureds, lines and industries to present valuable insight to senior executives
• Develop casualty catastrophe scenarios by studying historical events and emerging risks
• Model complex casualty reinsurance protections
Emerging Risk Monitoring – Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change and Other “Known-Unknowns”
• Conduct research on emerging risks, including artificial intelligence and climate change, quantify their impact on property and casualty insurance products and present the results to senior executives
• Assist with monitoring of all other “known-unknown” risks
Other Leadership Initiatives
• Lead automation of key risk processes
• Implement and maintain the risk assessment processes across our domestic and international business units
• Contribute to ERM reporting routines, including presentations to ERM Committee and C-suites of our business units as well as deliverables to rating agencies and regulators
• Assist with coaching of junior team members
