DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving production of airfield designs. The candidate will be responsible for helping guide the staff in the development of construction plans and specifications. The candidate will also be responsible for task management of multiple projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience in civil engineering, including project involvement in a variety of landside and airside projects, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of airfield pavements, grading and drainage design, storm water management, utility engineering, etc.
A typical day depends entirely on what type of project you may be working on. Involved from project inception to completion in the design and construction administration of airport design projects, including grading, drainage, pavement design, specifications, and construction phasing plans. This position would also be responsible for performing QC reviews throughout the life of the design. As a technical lead one could expect to coordinate all aspects of a particular project with the design team and sub-consultants daily and provide technical reviews throughout the project. Perform engineering calculations and support the assembly of construction specifications. Analyze GIS data, survey data, geotechnical data, subsurface utility information and date needed for project development. Write technical engineering reports. Perform Quantity Take-Offs. All of this could be performed on multiple projects every day. There isn’t necessarily a typical day in the life of an Aviation Civil Engineer, every day is a new adventure. One could become a Project Manager becoming responsible for all aspects of project management and managing the client throughout the life of a project.PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering 0-3 years of professional experience in all aspects of site civil engineering for design, including grading and drainage design, utility design, etc. A Master’s degree can be substituted for 1-2 years of experience. EIT Certification Experience in design tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D design. Airfield civil design including airfield pavement design. Knowledge of FAA Airports policies and procedures. Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines. Attention to detail and effective decision making, organization, and editing skills. Good interpersonal, communication, and conceptual thinking skills. Work independently and within a team setting to support projects and assignments.
What would make me stand out as a candidate?
Level and type of aviation experience. Broad knowledge of aviation planning, programming, design, and construction. Overall knowledge of the aviation industry. Knowledge and experience with the AIP and the grant programs. Prior experience with FAA’s advisory circulars and their application in airport layout and geometric design a plus. Federal/DoD Aviation design experience.
COMPENSATION
This position will be filled at a salary range of $70,791-$99,297 depending on experience.BENEFITS
